Sue Ann Romer, 73, passed away Jan. 21, 2016. She was born June 7, 1942, in Chico, California, to Percy and Elsie McLean. She married Fred Romer June 14, 1964, in Chico, California.
Sue Ann graduated from California State University, Chico, in 1963 with a degree in kindergarten/primary and elementary education. She worked as a teacher until 1981, when she became the director of a preschool and daycare center in Dublin, California, and retired from there in 2004.
A year later, she and Fred moved to Hurricane, Utah, where she loved to scrapbook and fell in love with her new hobbies of gourding, glass fusion, drawing and painting. She found many ICL classes that sparked her continued interest in learning. She and Fred enjoyed traveling all over the United States, and one of their favorite vacation spots was the island of Kauai, where they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2014.
They traveled extensively throughout the west in their fifth wheel, especially the Coachella Valley and the Phoenix area in March for baseball spring training.
Sue Ann is survived by her husband, Fred Romer of Hurricane, Utah; sons, Derek (Jennie) Romer of San Luis Obispo, California, and Kevin (Raimee) Romer of El Dorado Hills, California; daughter, Kristi Schaedel of Walnut Creek, California; and grandchildren, Aivree Romer, Karson Romer, McLean Romer and Noah Romer.
Funeral services
- A Celebration of Life for Sue Ann will be held Jan. 28, 2 p.m., at Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 S. Bluff St., St. George, Utah.
- In addition, a Celebration of Life will be held in Chico, California, her hometown, later in February.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Sue Ann’s name to: Elsie McLean Scholarship, 1 Chesapeake Court, Chico, CA 95926 (payable to: the University Foundation, c/o Elsie McLean Women’s Golf Memorial Scholarship).
