Jay Bybee Campbell

Jay Bybee Campbell, age 82, passed away Saturday, Jan. 23, 2016. He was born Nov. 5, 1933, in Tropic, Utah, to Charles Delbert and Sarah Delores Bybee Campbell.

Bybee grew up in Tropic and beautiful Zion National Park. He learned the value of strong work ethics, good values, faith in God, respect for others, love of country and the joy of serving others.

Bybee graduated from Hurricane High School, where he met his sweetheart, Clidene McEntire. They were married Feb. 21, 1952. Bybee and Clidene raised seven children. 

Bybee served in the Army Branch of the military, serving at Fort Bliss, Texas, and Fort Carson, Colorado. He was in a Guided Missile Battalion.

Bybee owned and operated a service station business for 25 years. He sold cars at Newby Buick for 33 years. He loved to help his customers find the car of their dreams.

Bybee loved his family. He was an excellent provider. He enjoyed taking his family on vacations all over the United States, and he loved to take his family fishing and camping at Kolob, his piece of heaven on Earth.

Bybee was a volunteer fireman for the City of St. George for 25 years.

Bybee was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many capacities of the church, including Elder’s Quorum president; Young Men’s leader; first assistant to High Priest Quorum, Ward Missionary and Sunday School Presidency. He loved to serve others. He was Christ-like and an excellent example to everyone.

He is survived by his children, Roger (Jane) Campbell, Jaylene (TC Vick) Topham, Kathleen (Huey) Clark, Linda (Delbert) Staheli, Brenda (Brent) Wilson, Lamar (Lori) Campbell and Kay (Shannon) Campbell; fifty two grandchildren; sixty eight great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and siblings Geraldine Stratton, LeRoy Campbell, Ferel Campbell, LouAnn Campbell and Jack Campbell.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Clidene McEntire Campbell; his parents, Charles Delbert Campbell and Sarah Delores Campbell; sister Delrae Pollock; and five grandchildren, Sara Campbell Baker, Brecken and Brayden Felstead, Audrie Campbell and Alyssa Carling.

Funeral services

  • Funeral services will be held Friday, Jan. 29, 11 a.m., at the St. George LDS East Stake Center, 449 S. 300 East, St. George, Utah.
  • Visitations will be held Thursday, 6-8 p.m., at Metcalf Mortuary, 300 W. St. George Blvd., St. George
  • Additional visitations will be held prior to services, 9-10:30 a.m., at the St. George LDS East Stake Center.
  • Interment will follow at the St. George City Cemetery.
