SANTA CLARA — Two cars collided on Santa Clara Drive Wednesday, causing one driver to be arrested and the other to be taken to the hospital.
A Buick was traveling on Lava Flow Drive just after 5:30 p.m. trying to make the turn onto Sunset when it was struck by a westbound Honda.
“The car that was traveling westbound (the Honda) … hit the left front of the car that was going to go eastbound onto Sunset,” said Ivins City/Santa Clara Police Sgt. Nick Nuccitelli. “I don’t know what the impairment was but there were positive clues for alcohol.”
The driver of the Honda was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, having an open container of alcohol in the car and having an outstanding warrant.
The driver of the Buick was taken by family members to Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George.
All occupants were wearing seat belts and no airbags deployed.
Units from the Ivins City/ Santa Clara Police Department, the Santa Clara Fire Department and Gold Cross Ambulance responded to the accident. Traffic was slowed for about 45 minutes through the intersection.
This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings. Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.
