ST. GEORGE — The driver of an Isuzu Rodeo fled the scene of a crash on Brigham Road in St. George early Wednesday morning after hitting a vehicle and then flipping his own while trying to get away.
Just before midnight Tuesday, the St. George Communications Center received a call from a driver reporting that his white Volvo had just been struck by another vehicle in the west roundabout on East Brigham Road, according to a media statement issued by the St. George Police Department Wednesday morning.
Kyle Winters told police that as he was traveling in the roundabout, attempting to exit onto Pioneer Road, a man driving a white Isuzu Rodeo cut into his lane from the left-hand lane, clipping the driver’s side panel of his white Volvo.
Just as both men pulled into a nearby Chevron parking lot, the driver of the Isuzu turned and sped off at a high rate of speed, entering the roundabout for the second time.
Winters called 911 and began to follow the man, Winters said. However, moments later, the driver of the Isuzu lost control of his vehicle and rolled onto the embankment near the Interstate 15 southbound on-ramp.
The Isuzu came to rest on its side, with the undercarriage facing Brigham Road.
At that point, the man crawled out of the Isuzu and fled on foot, leaving the area. After speaking with Winters, officers began searching for the man who, Winters said, fled in the direction just north of Wal-Mart.
Officers circulated the area but were unable to locate the driver of the Isuzu, the St. George Police statement read. Officers said they suspect alcohol may be a factor in the crash, which may explain why the driver of the Isuzu fled the scene.
Officers said they are following up on leads to identify and locate the driver of the Isuzu Rodeo.
Luckily, police said, there were no reported injuries to anyone else involved in the incident.
