ST. GEORGE — A Hurricane man was arrested Saturday following a 40-minute foot pursuit when he ran from police, ending when he trespassed and locked himself into a dwelling that was not his own.
While on patrol, La Verkin Police Officer Amber Crouse observed Nathan Douglas Spendlove in the area of 200 North in La Verkin just after 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
Crouse said she was aware that Spendlove had an active felony warrant out of 5th District Court in the amount of $12,000 and approached Spendlove to question him.
At first he gave the officer false information, Crouse said, but once he allegedly realized she knew who he was, he took off running.
The officer pursued Spendlove and called in other units to assist. The man ran through yards and parking lots near Farmers Market on North State Street, eluding officers in pursuit.
The man ran into a house on West 380 North and locked the doors, attempting to hide from police. The residents quickly fled outside and found officers nearby, Crouse said.
A K-9 officer advised Spendlove through the door that he would release the police dog if Spendlove didn’t leave the residence and comply with officers.
At that point, the man surrendered to police and was taken into custody without further incident.
Spendlove was charged with one class A misdemeanor for failure to obey an officer’s command; one class C misdemeanor for providing false information to a police officer; one class A misdemeanor for trespass-dwelling.
Bail was set for his release on these charges in the amount of $4,170 cash or bond.
Spendlove was booked into Washington Country Purgatory Correctional Facility on the above charges in addition to the outstanding warrant that initiated the foot pursuit, Crouse said.
La Verkin Police, Hurricane Police and K-9 Unit, Washington County Sheriff’s Deputies and K-9 Unit, and Rangers from the Bureau of Land Management assisted with the pursuit.
Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.
