ST. GEORGE — Tickets are going fast for the “Dixie’s Got Talent” finale show to be held Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the Dixie State University Cox Performing Arts Center, 385 S. University Ave. in St. George. This event will feature 20 of the best local performers as they vie for the top title and showcase their talents for a good cause.
The 1200-seat auditorium is expected to be filled to capacity for the third year in a row, “Dixie’s Got Talent” marketing and public relations coordinator Chet Norman said, with just over 200 tickets still available for this not-to-be-missed event.
“It is such a fun event,” Norman said. “If you just go once, you will be hooked.”
Now in its sixth year, “Dixie’s Got Talent” features the best talent in the area singing, dancing and performing for audience members as well as a panel of seven highly qualified judges from throughout Utah.
The seven judges are:
- Jeff Tuscano
- Joel Griffin
- Heidi Anderson
- The Piano Guys’ Paul Anderson
- Cathy Ford
- Calee Schroeder Reed
- Robynne Banks Pearce
One winner and one runner-up will be chosen for each of the two categories: adult (18 and up) and youth (17 and under). The judges’ combined scores account for 50 percent of contestants’ scores, while audience members’ votes account for the other half.
Winners and runners-up will receive cash prizes as well as bragging rights for the year, Norman said.
Finalists were chosen through a selection process that began with an audition. More than 100 people came to an open audition and about half of them received callbacks. From those callbacks, 20 contestants were selected to move on to the finale.
“We’re very lucky,” Norman said. “It is such a talented community.”
Visit the “Dixie’s Got Talent” Facebook page to learn more about the finalists and the talents they will be showcasing Thursday night.
In addition to the finalists’ performances, the 2015 winners will take the stage to provide entertainment during the vote tallying.
“This is a great showcase of essentially the best talent in Southern Utah,” Norman said.
Tickets can be purchased online or by phone at 435-652-7800.
“Dixie’s Got Talent” is produced annually by Dixie Scholarship Associates in cooperation with the Dixie Foundation and with the support of the Dixie State University Student Alumni Association. All proceeds from the event go toward providing needs-based scholarships for students who would be unable to continue their education otherwise due to financial or life-changing circumstances.
Support from this event provides approximately $10,000 a year for needs-based scholarships, Norman said.
