ST. GEORGE — Nine matches. Nine pins.
Snow Canyon wrestler Christian Case won all nine of those matches in Cedar City last week. The 132-pounder started with a win over the Redmen in a Region 9 battle. He followed with eight more victories at the Iron Town Duals. Among those he beat were wrestlers from Juab, Salem Hills, North Sanpete and Cheyenne High School out of Las Vegas.
Case and the Warriors will entertain Dixie at 7 p.m. on Thursday. They will then travel to the Rocky Mountain Rumble at Utah Valley University on Friday and Saturday, a sort of preview for the state tournament, which is also held at UVU.
Other Region 9 matches include Pine View at Cedar and Desert Hills at Hurricane. Last week, Pine View defeated Hurricane 43-30 and Cedar downed Snow Canyon 48-22. No results were reported on Dixie vs. Desert Hills.
According to Warrior coach Nick Lang, Case is in his second year as the elected team captain.
“He was the first-ever Snow Canyon sophomore elected to that position by his teammates,” Lang said. “ He works hard in the wrestling room, leading by example in conditioning drills. He is regularly the first one to cross the line in the sprints and the last one to unlace his shoes at the end of practice.”
In addition to wrestling, Case is active in his church. He recently completed the requirements for his Eagle Scout award. He lacks his final Board of Review in part because it’s been difficult to schedule because of his commitment to wrestling.
