ST. GEORGE — A 62-year old man was airlifted to Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George Tuesday after the all-terrain vehicle he and his wife were riding was stuck by another vehicle near Cimarron Drive and Mohave Mountain Drive in Beaver Dam, Arizona.
The man and his wife were traveling on Mohave Mountain Drive in Beaver Dam, Arizona, returning home Tuesday afternoon when a vehicle struck their ATV, rolling it over onto its side.
The impact and subsequent roll of the ATV left the man with a serious head wound that was bleeding profusely, Beaver Dam Fire Chief Jeff Hunt said.
Two off-duty EMTs, Tom and Debbie Gates, responded immediately when they heard the commotion of the accident from inside their nearby residence. Within seconds, the man received lifesaving emergency medical care while emergency personnel were en route, Hunt said.
“Luckily for him those two EMTs responded within seconds or he may not have made it,” Hunt said.
The man was airlifted by Mercy Air to Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George in critical condition. His wife sustained minor injuries in the accident; she was taken to Dixie Regional by a family member to receive medical treatment and to be with her husband.
Arizona’s Mohave County Sheriff’s deputies were still conducting an investigation into the incident at the time of this report, so limited information was available and no citations had been issued at the time.
Mohave County Sheriffs Office, Beaver Dam Fire Department, Beaver Dam-Littlefield Ambulance and Beaver Dam Fire and Rescue responded to the scene.
This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
