OREM — Snow Canyon’s Kody Hafen continued his winning ways at the 2016 Simplii All-Star Dual at Utah Valley University on Tuesday. And so did teammate Desmond Wise.

Hafen, who had a 10-win week just before the Christmas break, defeated Hunter Thacker of Altamont in their 120-pound match. Wise, wrestling at 285 pounds, pinned Parker Knudsen of Monticello in the second period of their match.

simpliiOf the wins, Warrior coach Nick Lang said, “I told Kody and Desmond earlier this week that, win or lose, it is an absolute honor to represent 3A in the All-Star Dual. Out of all the wrestlers in the entire state in the 3A division, the committee picked you. So whether you win or lose, I’m already proud of you. But we’re traveling up there to win!”

Lang continued,  “Kody and Desmond did just that. They made the trip intending to win. They represented their families, friends and their team. The entire Warrior nation can be proud of them.”

Canyon View’s Eric Gourde and Liam Williams of Desert Hills, meanwhile, dropped their matches. Brighton’s Davis Reynauld scored a takedown in the final seconds to defeat Williams 3-1 in their 152-pound match. And Tucker Tomlinson of Uintah recorded a technical fall against Gourde, defeating him 18-3 in their 160-pound battle.

Thursday, the six Region 9 teams will be in action with three dual matches, all starting at 7 p.m. Those include Hurricane at Pine View, Cedar at Snow Canyon and Dixie at Desert Hills.

On Friday and Saturday, Cedar will be host of the Iron Town Duals. Teams will get eight matches apiece with action starting at 3 p.m. on Friday and at 9 a.m. Saturday.
