Prep wrestling: Four southern Utahns to compete in All-Star meet

ST. GEORGE — Four Southern Utah athletes will be among 90 from across the state competing in the 2016 Simplii All-Star Dual at Utah Valley University in Orem on Tuesday. Action begins at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $10 per person with proceeds going to the UVU wrestling program.

Snow Canyon’s Kody Hafen and Desmond Wise, Liam Williams of Desert Hills and Canyon View’s Eric Gourde are members of one of four teams in the dual.

Hafen will battle Hunter Thacker of Altamont at 120 while Wise will battle Packer Knudsen of Monticello at 285 pounds. Williams will meet Davis Reynaud of Brighton at 152 pounds and Gourde will meet Tucker Tomlinson of Uintah at 160 pounds.

“This is a huge honor and has only happened one other time in our school’s history,” said Snow Canyon wrestling coach Nick Pace.

The regular season will resume on Thursday with three Region 9 matches – Cedar at Snow Canyon, Dixie at Desert Hills and Hurricane at Pine View. Varsity action begins at 7 p.m.
