HURRICANE — The Hurricane City Police Department Wednesday announced the completion of a victim soft-interview room located within the department’s headquarters. They designed the room to feel like a safe space for victims to feel supported, as well as to create an environment that victims can feel like they are not being investigated and to improve the relationship between victims and law enforcement.

“We want victims to feel that they have somewhere to meet with officers and investigators that’s a safe and supportive location that doesn’t have the feel of a police department,” Tiffany Mower, Victim Service Coordinator said, adding that victims being interviewed can feel more comfortable in a living room type of environment while they are speaking with the investigator or officer.

Through state grants, local donors, and local businesses including Stout Home Furnishings, Back in Balance Chiropractic, Zion Dental, The Hurricane Rotary Club, and Wal-Mart, the police department was able to remodel two rooms within their headquarters to give victims comfortable surroundings as they work with officers and investigators.

The victim soft interview room will also be available for use by other agencies in the eastern Washington county area.
