Girls basketball: Lady Flyers fall hard at Richfield

RICHFIELD – The Dixie Flyers traveled to Richfield for a non-region, non-holiday tournament matchup against the Lady Wildcats. Richfield had lost their last two games against Region 9 foes and played to reverse those fortunes Tuesday night, beating Dixie 57-19.

“We had a couple of girls that were unable to play tonight,” said Dixie head coach Jaime Araiza. “They play a very up-tempo, full-court game and we were unable to match that.

dixie-logoRichfield fast broke often and had gained a sizeable lead by halftime, 32-10.

“Offensively, we took some good shots tonight,” said Araiza. “But we had many roll in and out. They hit their shots. Richfield is a good team.”

Individually, Kelsea Barker and Grace Killian led Dixie with seven points apiece.

The win moves Richfield to 7-4. Dixie falls to 2-7. The Lady Flyers will now get a week off for Christmas. They will participate in the Blue and Gold Tournament in Enterprise beginning Tuesday, Dec. 29. Their first game will be against North Sevier. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. The Blue and Gold Tournament will be their final tune-up before Region 9 action starts on Jan. 12 against Pine View.
