Verna Bowley-Jaquess, 91, passed away Nov. 14, 2015, due to complications of Alzheimer’s disease. She was born Nov. 9, 1924, in Flagstaff, Arizona, to Joseph Bowley and Mary Corales Bowley. She married her husband, Haden Jaquess, on May 9, 1949, in Los Angeles, California.

Verna was raised in Flagstaff and attended a Catholic Boarding School until the 12th grade. She met her husband, Haden Jaquess, while traveling on a train. Verna and Haden raised their children in Bell, California.

Verna was a very busy woman. She was a caregiver to a neighbor, babysat, took in laundry and ironing and then held a job at California Ribbon & Carbon in California. Verna enjoyed traveling and was able to travel to Spain and Alaska.

Verna always had a project in the works of crocheting Afghans and sewing. She also enjoyed camping, fishing and bowling. Above all, Verna enjoyed being a mother and grandmother.

Verna is preceded in death by her mother, Mary Corales Bowley; father, Joseph Bowley; and six siblings, Mabel, Tom, Frank, Ray, Joseph and Donald.

She is survived by her children: Larry Jaquess, Costa Mesa, California; Lynn Jaquess  and spouse Vicki, of Surprise, Arizona; and Yvonne Jaquess-Marsh of Hurricane, Utah.

Verna’s prosperity includes five grandchildren, Eric Jaquess, Michele Bannon, Leslie Jaquess Heyer, Jana Bannon Henderson and Heidi Jaquess, thirteen great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services

  • Services will be held Saturday, November 21, 2015, at 11 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 79 N. Toquerville, Utah. Viewing will be held at the church, 10:30-11 a.m. Interment will take place at the Toquerville Cemetery.
  • In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

The family would like to thank all of the staff at the Legacy Unit at Kolob Care & Rehabilitation, St. George, for all of their support and care.
