Barbara Jean Smiley passed away in a fire in her home on November 9, 2015.
She is survived by her three siblings, Daniel Smiley, Susan Mulcahey, and Robin Smiley; her two daughters, Jessica Ashurst and Heather Krulisky and eight amazing grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her son, James Hazen Ashurst; her mother, Mary Smiley and father, Mark Smiley.
Born in Redmond, Oregon, Barbara relocated to Southern Utah in the 6th grade and graduated from Hurricane High School in 1976. An unfortunate motorcycle accident took away her ability to walk, but never her ability to see the silver lining on a cloudy day.
She will be fondly remembered for her cheerful disposition and open heart. She taught that life is to be celebrated and lived to the fullest. Barbara’s tragic death will be mourned by many.
Funeral Services
- A memorial service celebrating Barbara’s life will be held Saturday, Nov. 14, at 5 p.m. at the Hurricane West LDS Stake Center, 272 South 700 West, Hurricane.
Arrangements have been made under the direction of Spilsbury Mortuary.
