Moapa Valley OHV Roundup kicks off in Logandale

LOGANDALE, Nev. — The Moapa Valley Revitalization Project is hosting the Moapa Valley OHV Roundup Friday through Sunday at the Clark County Fairgrounds in Logandale.

“We have always had so many people from outside the community come here just to ride the OHV trails all around us,” said MVRP member and event coordinator Mary Kaye Washburn. “The trouble is, they come here but don’t take advantage of all of our local businesses. A lot of them don’t even know that we are here, so this event is designed to draw them into town to see what we local businesses have to offer them while they are here.”

In February, the Clark County Commissioners voted unanimously to approve an ordinance officially making Moapa Valley friendly to off-highway vehicle use. The OHV-friendly designation has been sought by community leaders for a long time.

For at least five years, Partners in Conservation Administrator Elise McAllister has headed a special task force to make key local roadways legal for OHV use. The goal was to allow access to and from public lands on the periphery of the community.

“It happened so quickly,” McAllister said of the commissioners’ action. “After all these years, and just like that — it is done. We are so happy!”

The event will have a pre-kickoff Wednesday as participants ride their OHVs in the Moapa Valley Veteran’s Day Parade.

Friday night, the event will feature live music and entertainment at the Clark County Fairgrounds, free trail maps for local trails, including the Logandale Trails System, and a Taste of Moapa Valley (food delivery to the fairgrounds from local restaurants).

Saturday morning will offer plenty of time for people to explore the area trails on their own before the afternoon activities begin. Saturday afternoon activities will include a scavenger hunt involving local businesses, hill climbs, other challenges and a BBQ dinner ($15 per person) on private land in Overton, with raffles, prizes and more.

This event is free to the public. Recreational vehicle spaces are available at the fairgrounds for $30 per night.
