Mud run for addiction recovery; join the race with Ninja Warriors

WASHINGTON CITY — Run with “American Ninja Warrior” competitors test skills on a muddy obstacle course Saturday and help raise funds for Recovery Outreach as they race to erase the stigma of addiction and provide help and hope to those who are in recovery.

The “Red for Recovery Mud Run” will be held Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at Staheli Family Farm, 3400 S. Washington Fields Road in Washington City and will feature a challenging, muddy obstacle course that ends with a giant slip and slide.

All participants will receive an event shirt while supplies last, finisher medal and an invitation to the bubble foam after-party. Cash, spa packages, golf packages, tool sets and restaurant and movie theater gift certificates are just a few of the over 50 prizes being given away at the event, according to a press release for the run.

The race is fun for the whole family with food, music and a special obstacle course designed just for kids.

Meet local “American Ninja Warrior” competitors Brian Beckstrand, Jon Stewart, Rick Pitcher and Dave Peterson and race for a good cause.

Some of the proceeds will go to Recovery Outreach, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing services to individuals or families suffering from the disease of addiction.

Primarily, people don’t receive treatment because of money,” Recovery Outreach Director Sharmane Gull, said. “We help with financial assistance, finding housing, employment assistance and navigate every possibility to put them in a safe environment.”

When people are burdened with the disease of addiction they don’t have a clear mind, Gull said, which makes it difficult for them to find the resources they need to help them to and through recovery.

“We help them build a plan of success,” Gull said. “They do the work but we guide them and help them get their priorities in order.”

Recovery Outreach works with treatment centers throughout the area, Gull said as well as the hospital in emergency situations and has trained, certified professionals ready to provide support and hope.

There are no closed doors here,” Gull said.

Registration is open online  and is $15 for warriors ages 4-18, $35 for one adult warrior, $50 for the couple warrior team event, and $75 for the three warrior team event. Late registration on the day of the event is available at no extra charge and will take place at the event site from 8-9 a.m.
