A two-car collision occurred on northbound I-15 near milepost 8 when one car rear-ended another due to one driver's lack of attention, UHP Trooper Lars Gardner said, St. George, Utah, Oct. 24, 2015 | Photo by Mori Kessler, St. George News

ST. GEORGE – A two-car collision on northbound Interstate 15 slowed traffic for a short time Saturday afternoon as responders dealt with the incident.

Around 4:20 p.m., in the area of I-15 that stretches over 700 South in St. George, a woman driving a red passenger car was slowing down due to the car ahead of her suddenly slowing down or stopping, Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Lars Gardner said.

As the woman was slowing down, the driver of a white car behind her wasn’t paying attention and didn’t stop in time to avoid colliding with the rear red car, Gardner said.

Both vehicles pulled off the roadway with units from the UHP and Washington County Sheriff’s Office arriving on scene.

No injuries resulted from the collision and both cars required towing. The driver of the white car was issued a citation for following too closely, Gardner said.

At times the majority of traffic on northbound I-15 in the area of the crash was reduced to a single lane as drivers merged into the far lane to pass by.

Personnel from the Utah Department of Transportation also responded to the scene.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
