ST. GEORGE — The driver of a car on Brigham Road in St. George was cited after making a U-turn that forced a motorcyclist to lay down his bike in the road Friday morning.

A motorcyclist was coming off the Bloomington roundabout onto Brigham Road in the inside lane, St. George Police Sgt. Albert Gilman said, when a black Acura on Brigham Road in the outside lane made a U-turn in front of the motorcyclist, cutting him off.

“Indications were the (driver of the) vehicle did not see the motorcycle,” Gilman said. “They did not make contact, however the motorcycle did go down.”

A witness that was directly behind the motorcycle said that the motorcyclist would have struck the vehicle had he not gone down, Gilman said. The witness followed the Acura to Wal-Mart and told the driver to wait for police to get there.

Police made contact with with the driver of the Acura and issued a citation for improper U-Turn, Gilman said.

The motorcycle rider was wearing a helmet, Gilman said, and was uninjured other than suffering some road rash from the accident. The motorcycle was removed from the scene by a wrecker, he said.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
