HILDALE – A traffic accident Saturday morning outside of Hildale damaged three vehicles and resulted in one driver being cited for following too closely.
At 10:50 a.m. a van driven by a woman and carrying two adult female passengers was traveling westbound on S.R. 59 at about milepost 3.
The van stopped to turn onto Canaan Ranch Road, Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Lawrence Hopper said.
A woman driving a Buick and carrying two female juvenile passengers stopped behind the van, waiting for it to turn.
A blue pickup truck driven by a woman traveling with three children approached the two stopped vehicles from behind.
Seeing the truck approaching, the driver of the Buick tried to get out of the way, Hopper said, but was unable to avoid a collision.
“The truck ended up hitting the Buick, and hit the back of the van as well,” Hopper said, damaging all three vehicles. The driver of the pickup truck was cited for following too closely.
Hopper advises drivers to pay attention and keep an eye out for possible hazards down the road.
“Go the speed limit and scan the traffic ahead of you,” he said.
Too many people are aware of what’s going on right in front of them, Hopper said, but not what is going on five or six seconds in front of them.
“We always tell drivers, ‘Don’t look at what’s right in front of you, because by that time it’s going to be too late for you,'” Hopper said.
No injuries were reported by the occupants of the three vehicles, except for bumps and bruises, Hopper said, and no one was transported for medical care.
