George Wendell Holmes Jr. passed peacefully with his wife at his side on October 8, 2015. Wendell was born December 17, 1927, in Corinne, to George Wendell and Hazel Frederickson Holmes.
Wendell grew up in Corinne and attended schools in Brigham City, and graduated from Box Elder High School. He married Charlene Coleman in March 29, 1950, and together they raised five children. They were later divorced.
Wendell worked for many years for local construction companies installing sewer and drainage systems. He later worked for Thiokol. Before he retired he worked as a realtor and had his own handyman business.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He loved genealogy and family history as a hobby. Wendell married Alice Jo McQueen September 2, 1994, in an Ogden ceremony and lived happily together for 21 years. Together they made their home in Willard for three years and Bear River City, for seven years before moving to Hurricane in 2004.
Wendell was a Veteran of the Navy and served in WWII. Wendell is survived by: his wife; his five children: Bob Holmes, Jill Hopper, Jean (Richard) Eberspecher, David (Earlene) Holmes, and Kathy (Karl) Kersker; one stepson: Jason Kirk; 16 grandchildren; 44 great grandchildren; one sister: Cheryl Holmes Reeves. Wendell was preceded in death by: his sister Marilyn Romano and his parents.
