Just before 5 p.m., Traci Ann Kieffer, 43, was driving a small red SUV eastbound on St. George Boulevard, St. George Police Sgt. Rich Triplett said. As she proceeded past the intersection of 1000 East she rear-ended a vehicle in front of her that was slowing down near the onramp to Interstate 15. That vehicle then hit the vehicle in front of it, making for a three-car collision.  Triplett did not have descriptions of the second and third vehicles to provide at the time of the interview.

No serious injuries were reported, Triplett said, but one driver was transported by Gold Cross Ambulance to Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George with minor injuries.

The three-car collision caused traffic to slow and then become congested on St. George Boulevard for almost an hour as law enforcement and emergency personnel tended to the scene.

St. George Police and Fire departments, Utah Department of Transportation Incident Management Team and Gold Cross Ambulance responded to the incident.

Kieffer was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, possession of controlled substance marijuana/spice, possession of drug paraphernalia, all class B misdemeanors; and following too close, an infraction. She also had an outstanding warrant, Triplett said. After receiving medical clearance, she was booked into Washington County Purgatory Correctional Facility and later released on $2,780 bail bond securing her promise to appear in court Oct. 29.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and court records and may not contain the full scope of findings.

Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.
