MIDWAY — All were hopeful, but none were able. Beating a stacked Park City team was just too much to ask this week at the state 3A golf tournament on Midway’s Soldier Hollow Golf Course.
Led by Mitchell Schow’s 13-under two-day total of 131, the Miners easily cruised to their eighth straight state golf title under coach George Murphy.
Southern Utah was represented well as Snow Canyon’s Triston Gardner finished in second place, five shots behind Schow with a two-day score of 136. Noah Schone of Pine View was right behind Gardner with a 7-under 137.
Gardner’s Warriors placed third behind Park City’s team total of 571 and Tooele’s 591. Snow Canyon came in at 604 and Pine View placed fourth with a score of 609. Dixie was the other southern Utah team to place. The Flyers were seventh with a score of 631.
Dixie’s Kosuke Aoki took seventh at state, carding a 1-under par 143 for the two-day tourney.
Region 9 gold medalist Brody Payzant struggled on Thursday, shooting a 77 and finishing with a 5-over total of 149.
