ST. GEORGE – With round six (out of 10) of the Region 9 volleyball matchups complete, the standings are beginning to solidify.
Snow Canyon and Desert Hills sit squarely at the top. The Warriors hold the one-game edge with its defeat of the Thunder in their first matchup. Pine View and Dixie are in the middle at 3-3. Pine View holds the edge with its earlier win against the Flyers. Hurricane and Cedar, both with new coaches and a decline in experience from previous years, make up the cellar. It is hard to imagine that the remainder of the season will not play out the same. The following is a breakdown of Wednesday and Thursday nights’ matches.
Snow Canyon 3, Pine View 0
Snow Canyon swept Pine View on Thursday night, 25-16, 25-15, 25-16. The Panthers did not go down without a fight.
“They were able to go on some runs in each game,” said Snow Canyon head coach Alaina Parker. “Each time we were able to regroup and close out the set.”
Snow Canyon remains undefeated and in the top spot in Region 9 with an overall record of 9-2. But the season has not come without some adversity.

“We are dealing with a lot of injuries this year,” said Parker. “It has caused us to tighten up our rotation somewhat. We are relying on our experienced players to do more than usual.”
For the Warriors, outside hitter Crash Parker had 17 kills, 11 digs and six service aces. Nikenna Durante recorded nine kills, 20 digs and three service aces. Setter Shaylee Reed had 28 assists and 11 digs.
“Parker, Durante and Reed are always going to get the stats,” said Coach Parker. “Camryn Johnson has played extremely well in support. Her play has been steady and she complements and plays well with her teammates.”
