Canyon View rushes its way into first-place tie with rout of Richfield

CEDAR CITY — The Canyon View Falcons are like a boulder rolling downhill and it seems as if there’s nothing to stop them.

CV improved to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in the 3A South with a 62-27 blasting of the Richfield Wildcats. The Falcons only loss is a 55-42 defeat at the hands of 3AA Dixie.

canyon-view-smrichfield-smCanyon View scored at least two touchdowns in every quarter against Richfield, with the rushing game proving nearly unstoppable. The Falcons had more than 600 rushing yards in the contest, with Jackson Vasi grabbing a lion’s share of the total with an amazing 313 rushing yards in the game. He scored on TD runs of 65, 40 and 58 yards with all three tallies coming before halftime.

Canyon View led 34-15 at intermission and pushed the lead to 46-15 by the end of the third quarter, when the coaches emptied the benches and gave the younger players some playing time.

Payton Higgins had 140 yards of his own as the lightning to Vasi’s thunder attack. Higgins also scored three times.

Canyon View battles Juab in Cedar City next Friday for first place all alone in the 3A South. The Wasps are also 5-1 and 2-0.

Richfield, 1-5 and 0-2, has given up 254 points in six games this year (42.3 papg).

The Falcons lead the state with a scoring average of 49.3 points a game.
