SANTA CLARA – Hundreds of people young and old lined historic Santa Clara Drive Saturday morning to partake in the festivities of the 26th annual Swiss Days Parade as the three-day heritage celebration opened its final day.

Before parade start, families and friends mingled under the shade of the sycamore trees, giving a visual representation of this year’s theme of “Spreading Our Branches from Strong Roots” as they greeted each other with smiles and waves.

Children carried large plastic bags anticipating the most popular part of the Swiss Days parade: the candy.

The parade was led by one of the Santa Clara-Ivins’ Police Department’s finest, followed shortly by the colors of the nation and state carried by the Dixie Wing Air Force JROTC.

Following the flags came a cavalcade of community members and businesses, including the Snow Canyon High School and Middle School marching bands, Swiss descendants, citizens in classic cars, Santa Clara firemen and others throwing more candy than is seen on Halloween.

Santa Clara Swiss days is an annual event that pays tribute to the stalwart Swiss pioneers who settled in the area in 1861 and built Santa Clara into the thriving community it is today.

Other activities throughout the event included the Red Rock Car Show, live entertainment, pioneer crafts and games, food and craft vendors, a 5K race and much more.
