The stoplight was red at the crosswalk in front of the DSU North Instructional Building on 100 South, and westbound traffic had been backed up to 900 East, St. George Police Sgt. Rich Triplett said. As the light changed, an eastbound white passenger car on 100 South was waiting to make a left turn onto northbound 900 East and failed to see a black SUV heading west.

“The black SUV was coming straight through,” Triplett said. “The white passenger car turned right in front of it.”

The two vehicles collided, and the impact pushed the two vehicles into a third car, a red sedan. The red car had very minor damage from the accident.

Triplett said the driver of the white car was taken to Dixie Regional Medical Center by ambulance with minor injuries. No one else was hurt in the accident, which closed westbound 100 South for almost 30 minutes.

The driver of the white passenger car was cited for failure to yield on a left turn, Triplett said.

All vehicle occupants were wearing seat belts.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
