ST. GEORGE – A bicycle-versus-car collision at 700 South and 900 East Monday resulted in the driver being issued a citation and the cyclist left with a bent wheel.

Around 5 p.m., St. George Police and other responders were dispatched to the intersection of 900 East and 700 South where a bicycle had been hit by a car while in the crosswalk.

The cyclist, a woman who appeared to be in her early 20s, saw the light was green for the crosswalk and had about 15 second left to cross, St. George Police Officer Jamison Hale said. While she was crossing, a northbound Toyota Prius on 900 East was moving to make a right-hand turn onto 700 South.

Instead of making the turn though, the Prius hit the bicycle. The impact bent the front-wheel of the bike.

Jamison was unable to comment on the extend of any injuries the cyclist may have received. She was tended to by Gold Cross Ambulance medics at the scene and aside from a little bit of a limp, otherwise appeared uninjured. She was not transported to Dixie Regional Medical at the time.

The driver of the Prius was unharmed and received a citation, Hale said.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
