SAN DIEGO – Dixie State volleyball opened its conference season with two games on the road against the PacWest preseason favorites. The Storm dropped a five-set match at California Baptist Friday night in Riverside, Calif., 14-25, 21-25, 26-24, 26-24, 11-15. On Saturday, Dixie State was swept in three games at Point Loma, 18-25, 12-25, 20-25. The losses drop the Storm to 3-7 overall, 0-2 in PacWest play.
Against Cal Baptist, Alex Anderson finished with a career-high 17 kills and hit a team-high .378 for the match. Delayne Daniel notched her fourth-straight double-double with 14 digs and 10 kills, while Taylor Duryea and Lindsay Jones each finished with 10 kills. Kailey Frei notched a double-double with 45 assists and 14 digs.
Against Point Loma, Dixie State was held to season-lows in kills with 30 and a .116 hitting percentage. Duryea led the Storm with seven kills and nine digs, while Daniel finished with six kills and four digs.
After 10-straight road matches to open the 2015 season, Dixie State will finally open the home portion of its schedule with a seven-match homestand, beginning with a PacWest showdown with Notre Dame de Namur Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the DSU Student Activities Center.
