ST. GEORGE — Steve Bangerter made two clutch catches in the third overtime as Pine View outlasted Snow Canyon with an 8-6 triple overtime win Friday night at Warriors Stadium.

Snow Canyon finally found paydirt with a trick play as TJ Taimi hit a wide open Chris Poulsen on a reverse pass from 25-yards out. But the Warriors missed the mandatory two-point conversion as Jackson Nowatzke’s pass was tipped away by a Pine View defender.

The Panthers then scored the tying TD on a 21-yard pass from Riley Livingston to Bangerter. He snared the ball away from a defender at the 10-yard line and evaded two more SC defenders to get into the end zone.

Pine View then went for their two-point conversion, with Livingston hitting Bangerter in the middle of the field. The pass, which was inches away from being tipped away by a Warrior defender, landed in Bangerter’s mitts and he fell backward onto the end zone’s painted turf for the winning score, with the Pine View bench rushing the scene in celebration.

Pine View emerged as the winner of a defensive bash between two physical teams. After regulation and two overtimes, the most either team could do was sniff the end zone as the game remained a scoreless tie. Both teams had opportunities in the other’s red zone but were turned away each time.

While there were some offensive moments, the stars of this game came from the defense. For Snow Canyon, Joe Servati collected two sacks, the first of which also forced a Panther fumble in the red zone, had two additional tackles for loss, and intercepted Livingston’s pass in the second overtime. For Pine View, Mason Wiley made a game-saving tackle, intercepted a Nowatzke pass and tackled a Warrior ball carrier for a huge loss to force a long field goal in the second overtime.
