ST. GEORGE — The Dixie Flyers Flyers dominated from the start in a 47-19 win over the Cedar Redmen Friday night at Walt Brooks Stadium in the first region match for both teams.

dixie-smcedar-smDixie jumped out in front fast, scoring 33 unanswered points in the first half, and never looked back. Cedar didn’t get on the board until halfway through the third quarter.

After halftime, Cedar seemed to calm down a bit and finally found the end zone. But at that point, it was too little too late and the Redmen still couldn’t stop the Dixie offense.

Dixie running back Tre Miller rushed for 156 yards and two touchdowns in the win. He had 87 yards on two carries as he scored on a 56-yard touchdown and got down to the 1-yard line on another rush of 31 yards.

Dixie quarterback Zak Harrah threw for 197 yards and had five total touchdowns, including one on the ground. Harrah and Bret Barben hooked up on some key plays and Barben had 75 yards receiving and a touchdown. They connected on a 41-yard completion to set up a shorter pass for Barben’s touchdown.

Cedar forced a fumble early, but couldn’t capitalize as the Redmen offense gave it right back on the ensuing play. That looked like the start of a defensive battle, but Miller wouldn’t be denied after the early fumble.

Cedar next hosts Snow Canyon, and Dixie travels to Desert Hills Friday, Sept. 25.
