Snow Canyon, Desert Hills, Dixie all sweep to start Region 9 volleyball action

ST. GEORGE – Region 9 volleyball got underway Tuesday night with all three matches ending in straight set sweeps.

snow-canyon-logoPine-view-smThe Snow Canyon Warriors swept the visiting Pine View Panthers, putting on a serving clinic. SC had 18 aces against only seven service errors. Nikenna Durante and CJ Johnson had six aces apiece.

“I have been working hard lately on getting my float serve down,” said Durante. “It was working for me tonight.”

In the first set, Snow Canyon jumped to a commanding 19-5 lead behind the serving of Johnson. The Panthers rebounded toward the end of the first set, but saw the Warriors cruise to victory 25-11.

The Panthers continued their momentum in the second set, actually taking an early lead, 9-8. Snow Canyon then went on a 17-5 run, including the last seven points of the match behind the serves of Durante.

In the third set, Pine View again was able to stay with the Warriors initially. They trailed only by two, 10-8, before Snow Canyon would put together another run, again behind the serving of Durante. The final stanza was 25-15 for the Warrior sweep.

Crash Parker led the Warriors with 20 kills. She also contributed seven digs. Durante and Shaylee Reed led the team with nine digs apiece. Reed also led the team with 27 assists.

“We have had steady improvement from top to bottom from the girls,” said Warrior head coach Alaina Parker. “We have gotten through some injuries. There are still a few things we need to improve, but the team is playing at a high level right now.”

Snow Canyon moves to 4-2 and will travel to Cedar Thursday night. The Panthers fall to 13-8. They will travel to Hurricane Thursday night.

DIXIE 3, CEDAR 0

dixie-smcedar-smDixie swept visiting Cedar 25-19, 26-24, 25-15 to improve to 6-6. Setter Risha Tiatia led the Flyers with 14 assists. She also contributed eight digs and four service aces. Katie Fisher led the team with eight kills.

For the visiting Lady Reds, Ashley Vanfleet led the team with 10 kills. Libero Hannah Williams had 10 digs. Setter Kylie Fields recorded 13 assists. The Flyers will play at Desert Hills on Thursday. Cedar falls to 7-4 and will host Snow Canyon on Wednesday night.

DESERT HILLS 3, HURRICANE 0

Desert Hills hosted the Hurricane Tigers and beat them in straight sets.

Desert-Hills-smhurricane-smThe Thunder improved to 4-0 on the season with the sweep, 25-17, 25-13, 25-16.

For Hurricane, Kerri Marshall led the team with seven kills. Kansas Lytle led the team with 23 assists. Gordon Lynn Sefita contributed 19 assists. Ellie McDonald had four blocks.

D-Hills hosts Dixie Thursday night. Hurricane falls to 1-5. The Lady Tigers will host the Pine View Panthers on Thursday.
