Quick Hits: Cedar defense stout as Redmen hold on for 21-20 win over Juab

NEPHI — The Cedar Redmen will return home from Nephi with a 2-2 record after knocking off previously undefeated Juab 21-20 in a defensive battle Friday night.

cedar-smjuab-smTwo missed extra points left Juab behind by a point, which led to the close loss for the Wasps. Cedar head coach Josh Bennett said both teams had at least four turnovers.

Juab scored first when Shawn Nielsen found the end zone on a 10-yard rush. Cedar got a hand on the PAT, though, and left it only 6-0.

Cedar then scored 21 points unanswered, including a 98-yard touchdown pass from Mason Fakahua to Bracken Yardley. Cedar’s Travis Tait and Jade Bulloch also had a rushing touchdown each in that stretch.

Juab’s receiver/quarterback Tyse Ostler then found Payton Bowring for a touchdown and quarterback Ryker Osborne threw for the two-point conversion to put the score 21-14 at the half.

After halftime, Bowring scored on a run, but a missed extra point left the score at 21-20 for Cedar. That’s how it would stay the remainder of the game.

Cedar, 2-2, begins 3AA South Region play next Friday with a road trip to old rival Dixie (3-1). Kickoff is 7 p.m. at Walt Brooks Stadium.
