WASHINGTON CITY – There are a lot of benefits to spaying and neutering animals beyond mere birth control, as Dr. Jace King of Washington Family Veterinary Clinic in St. George shows us in this episode of Dixie’s Adopt-A-Paws.

It is not only beneficial for population control of stray animals that wind up in shelters, but spaying and neutering can deter serious medical risks and diseases.
Even if your pet doesn’t venture outside, King said it is still important to have them spayed or neutered and the procedures can be done at any age in both dogs and cats, although younger is preferred.
“There are behavior concerns,” King said. “There are dominant behaviors when you don’t spay or neuter your dog.”
Prices range from around $125-$300 for a dog depending on size and other factors. Spay and neuter costs for cats are less expensive, ranging from around $95-$200. There are programs that can help with spay and neuter costs and payment plans.
For more information regarding spaying, neutering or other medical questions, contact any local veterinary clinic.
