ENTERPRISE – Enterprise City Park, 400 East 400 South in Enterprise was bustling Saturday as the city hosted the 25th annual “Enterprise Cornfest.”

Thousands of people gathered at the park to shop for wares, browse past classic cars, enjoy live entertainment and taste the famous corn.

Yummy smells permeated the air and the sound of pig calling and cow mooing contests blared over the microphone at the family-friendly festival held in the longtime farming community of Enterprise.

“This has a lot to do with our grassroots,” Entertainment Director Jennifer Shurtliff said. “Corn has been grown here for so long and families have been sitting around the corn table eating it for forever.”

One of the highlights of the festival was a corn eating contest which pitted men and women and their front teeth against a plate of four ears of corn.

The corn, which was provided by Jack Holt Farms, glistened in the afternoon sun as contestants lined up for their chance to prove to onlookers how fast they could devour the little yellow kernels.

This year’s champion was Brant Smith who threw up his arms in celebration as his last cob was cleaned.

The fun continued well into the afternoon and evening with a variety of musical acts, dancing and a dutch oven dinner.

“The music and the family setting just really gives people a reason to be together,” Shurtliff said, “and what better reason to be together than to hang out with your family and share fun traditions.”
