KANAB — Do you long for the days when lone rangers rode on their trusty steeds and fought bad guys? Experience the Old West live and in person, and meet movie stars whose films were shot in Kanab. The 17th annual Western Legends Roundup returns to Kanab Thursday-Saturday in full celebration of film, music, poetry and Western heritage. This year’s Roundup theme is “How the West was won.”

A full schedule can be found on the Western Legends Roundup website. Western Legends events include shooting competitions, dinner with the stars, a street fair and a tribute to country music star Marty Robbins. Also featured will be the “High Noon Parade,” cowboy music and poetry, a tractor pull, eating contests and a tour of local movie sites.

Prices for ticketed events and attractions range from $5 for a quilt raffle ticket to $30 for the Jim D’Arc VIP Bus Tour, where you’ll get to see the exact locations where movies like “Calamity Jane and Sam Bass” were filmed, as well as the river gorge where the U.S. Cavalry fought in “Buffalo Bill”; attendees will also hear stories about the difficulties of the on-location filming. Concerts will also take place featuring country music star Suzy Bogguss and the Sons of the Pioneers. VIP tickets are sold out, according to the website, but general seating is still available.

Some of the celebrities who will be in attendance include Clint Walker, Bruce Boxleitner, Don Collier, Roberta Shore, and Cheryl Rogers. There will be both breakfast and a Dutch oven-style dinner with the stars.

Event organizers wanted to “round up artists who not only portray Western legends on film but who are Western legends themselves,” according to the event website.

There will be a barn dance Saturday night starting at 9 p.m., with music provided by the Classic Country Band, in their seventh year at the Roundup. Pull on a pair of your best boots and dance the night away to your favorite country tunes.
