The IRS reminds taxpayers who plan to visit an IRS office to first check the hours and services offered at that location. Services at IRS offices may vary, be limited or unavailable.
Hours of operation and available services for all Taxpayer Assistance Centers are listed online. This website lists local telephone numbers for making appointments (if the TAC offers that service) and other services the TAC offers, as well as other useful information. You can also locate the nearest volunteer tax preparation site on IRS.gov by entering “VITA” in the search function or make a free online payment using IRS Direct Pay. It’s fast, secure and available 24/7.
Visiting an IRS office is not the only option available for tax help. The IRS reminds taxpayers that they can often get needed tax information or resolve a tax problem without having to call or visit an IRS office. The IRS website provides many of the same services available at a Taxpayer Assistance Center including the ability to request copies of transcripts, check the status of a tax refund or get answers to common tax questions.
