ST. GEORGE — A two-car collision blocked traffic on Sunset Boulevard in St. George for about 45 minutes Thursday night, tying up traffic as well as the crews and officials working to clean up and investigate the accident.
Shortly before 10 p.m., a gray car was on 1400 West waiting to turn east onto Sunset Boulevard, St. George Police Lieutenant Thad Feltner said. At the same time, a white car was traveling westbound on Sunset Boulevard, approaching the intersection.
“For whatever reason,” Feltner said, “the driver of the gray car felt like the white car was going to turn at 1400, so it pulled out in front of the white car.”
The two vehicles collided, resulting in major damage to both cars.
The gray car had only two occupants: the driver and one passenger. The driver was the sole occupant of the white car.
All involved in the collision were were wearing their seat belts, Feltner said.
Gold Cross Ambulance responded to the scene, but no one was transported to the hospital.
The driver of the gray car was issued a citation failure to yield. Both cars sustained major damage and were towed from the scene.
In addition to Gold Cross, units from the St. George Police Department and St. George Fire were called to the scene.
Westbound traffic was detoured around the accident scene for about 45 minutes.
This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
