Gov. Herbert: ‘Allegations against Planned Parenthood are deeply troubling’

Stock image, St. George News

SALT LAKE CITY — Gov. Gary R. Herbert issued the following statement Friday regarding recent accusations against Planned Parenthood:

The allegations against Planned Parenthood are deeply troubling. Current Utah state law prohibits the use of state funds to provide abortions by Planned Parenthood or any other organization. The federal government has provided grants to Planned Parenthood, distributed through the Utah Department of Health. These funds are also prohibited from being used to perform abortions. In light of ongoing concerns about the organization, I have instructed state agencies to cease acting as an intermediary for pass-through federal funds to Planned Parenthood.

Other state and local agencies and nonprofits will continue to provide sexually transmitted disease education and prevention programs.

YES, the allegations ARE deeply troubling because they are WRONG.
It is clearly detestible that Utah’s politicians get their views from right-wing screamers, chain-letter hoax emails and other spurious sources. Not ONE of them has the cojones to actually find out the truth — and we know why: those who elect them are just as gullible.
If you followed everything that happened in Utah Republican politics this week, you should be ashamed of what you voted for.

I’M A REPUBLICAN: I GET ALL MY NEWS FROM HARD-RIGHT WING RADIO/TV SNIPPETS AND OBSCURE KOOK WEBSITES. “IF YOU DON’T LIKE THE WAY WE DO THINGS HERE THEN LEAVE!!!”

      • GrandmaB August 16, 2015 at 8:06 am

This is part of the US of A, light bulb. We aren’t going to leave, we are going to change it. You can always move to some remote oligarchic theocracy where the living standards are late 18th century. We won’t mind.

If FUN BAG lives in Utah he already lives where you suggest he go.

You haven’t met Scumbag on this blogsite yet? It’s his way of lampooning the conservatives. He is chairman of the nitwit party so leave it at that.

            That was beautiful

Another “if you don’t like it, leave” comment. And by using all caps and 3 exclamation points, you really show us liberals you mean business. However, this is America, and being the loudest or maddest, doesn’t make you right. Perhaps you remember this saying from the 60’s, which seems to apply to the right wingnuts now. “America, love it or leave it”

    • Dexter August 16, 2015 at 8:40 am

We should be giving money left and right to Planned Parenthood it weeds out the pathetic losers like REAL LIFE VILLAGE IDIOT. but I’m sure he will. crawl out from underneath his rock and spew out another brilliant commentary

    • McMurphy August 16, 2015 at 9:20 am

Herbert doesn’t care about the truth. He — and the rest of the power structure in Utah — cares about stopping or sharply limiting abortion. Shutting down Planned Parenthood will aid in doing that.

  • GrandmaB August 15, 2015 at 8:01 pm

This is just another battle in the war on women. Everyone is already aware that your insistence of forcing your religious beliefs on women and their bodies is a fact. Federal and state funds do NOT fund abortions. Though they should. Now, all you are going to do is deny those women who need the medical care that the money does fund. I hope you are all proud. Men deciding who will and who will not be healthy. This will change. Your short term goals, and shortsighted aims will back fire. Fetuses are not humans. Your new insistence that rape and incest pregnancies are “the blessings of god” will also backfire. It is sickening the lengths men will take to have unfettered access to womens bodies. Because men have not attained the status of adult in the realms of emotional and mental growth, their need to continue to force women into their short sited stereo types will only hurt us as a culture and a people. Grow up guys. It really is time.

    • NotSoFast August 16, 2015 at 8:17 am

GrandmaB, It’s obvious you don’t really like men. Hateful old bag.
I think if an intelligent woman doesn’t want to go through the normal Birth process, she should take the damn pill and shut up. Men who rape others? Cut their you know what off. (wow, that hurt just typing that).
Or maybe tie the knot with someone of the same sex. And be thankful you don’t have to live under a country who practices Sharia law mandates.

      • GrandmaB August 16, 2015 at 10:00 am

First, the most fun, Sharia and Christian law both have their origins in the same place, the Old Testament (I’m sure you did not know that). That is why they are so similar. Second, if speaking the truth makes me a hateful old bag, LOL, great. I love it. Third, I’m glad to see you are on the road to enlightenment. Cutting off “you know what” is a perfect response to rape and incest. Fourth, you have missed some FAUX News. There are elements who are trying to get rid of the pill. Planned Parenthood is one of the largest dispensers of the birth control pill, for free, because so many cannot afford it, or did not have access to the insurance. And some of those great insurances still do not pay for it. I would imagine that is “part” of the reason PP is a target again. And Sharia law is no worse in some ways than Christian/Old Testament.

        Dear Dr. Laura:

Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God’s Law. I have learned a great deal from your show, and try to share that knowledge with as many people as I can. When someone tries to defend the homosexual lifestyle, for example, I simply remind them that Leviticus 18:22 clearly states it to be an abomination… end of debate.

I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some other elements of God’s Laws and how to follow them.
        1. Leviticus 25:44 states that I may possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighbouring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can’t I own Canadians?
        2. I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?
        3. I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual unseemliness – Lev. 15: 19-24. The problem is how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offence.
        4. When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord – Lev. 1:9. The problem is my neighbours. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?
        5. I have a neighbour who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2. clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself, or should I ask the police to do it?
        6. A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination – Lev. 11:10, it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don’t agree. Can you settle this? Are there ‘degrees’ of abomination?
        7. Lev. 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle-room here?
        8. Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev. 19:27. How should they die?
        9. I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?
        10. My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev. 19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? Lev. 24:10-16. Couldn’t we just burn them to death at a private family affair, like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev. 20:14)

I know you have studied these things extensively and thus enjoy considerable expertise in such matters, so I am confident you can help.

Thank you again for reminding us that God’s word is eternal and unchanging.

        Your adoring fan,

Good job GrandmaB /Professor Kauffman. A lot of history you mouth for us. (bah, bah, bah)
Getting back to the discussion at hand, do you (or) do you not think that Planned Parenthood Org. should be forced funded by every, non- educated tax payer? Or should I have considered your right to the grant money you rely on? Shouldn’t Planned Parenthood be a tax exempt 501c entity like other people of good will? Wouldn’t that be fair? Take off your socialist hat and reply
          honestly.

          • mesaman August 16, 2015 at 4:21 pm

I wonder if grandmob has ever heard of the “New Testament”? Maybe she can correlate similarities between those writings and the writings of Muhammed.

          • GrandmaB August 16, 2015 at 5:39 pm

Your question really makes no sense. PP is a NPO, and is tax exempt under the501c. And yes, I think the funds that have gone to PP are very well spent. Much more so than the billions we have poured into the Middle East and Israel, just to prop up our oil interests. Take off your hat, of what ever kind it is, and just try thinking for yourself. As Christ recognized, you will always have the poor and needy. It is up to those who have to help them. I would rather do that thru my government, than some of the corrupt churches and so called charitable organizations. PP has helped more women than you can even wrap your mind around. By the way, fetuses are not human beings. Stop trying to force your ideology on others, and start thinking.

  • native born new mexican August 15, 2015 at 10:04 pm

The governor did the right thing. He often doesn’t but this time yes. Stop the baby killing.

    • GrandmaB August 16, 2015 at 8:09 am

There is no baby killing, just a lot of kids starving. In this state. You have ignorant people throwing food away rather than give it to hungry kids. You should be so proud. Fetuses are not babies. Grow up. Stop trying to force your religion on people who don’t believe the way you do. This is not a theocracy yet, though I know Utah has plans that way.

    • Dexter August 16, 2015 at 8:44 am

Yeah I agree with the governor enough is enough.. but the only downside to it is we have to have people like REAL LIFE VILLAGE IDIOT hanging around

  • Real Life August 16, 2015 at 12:03 am

LOL.! REAL LIFE VILLAGE IDIOT called you a stupid parrot

        • GrandmaB August 16, 2015 at 5:45 pm

Dexter, there are a lot of men and women out in the general population of this country who have not attained the status of adult. It takes a certain maturity and education to be able to absorb the truth. Age has nothing to do with that level of awareness. You, my child are still at the toddler stage. When you get pass the stage of needing to force your beliefs on others, and hating everyone who disagrees with you, you will be ready for the next step. That of understanding that there is an entire world out there that is nothing like your little fantasies. Good luck.

The allegations against Planned Parenthood are just that — allegations. Our Gov is acting on heavily edited video clips. For how many years has PP been receiving Fed grants funneled thru the state ??

hey idiot republicans, have you ever taken a look at the demographics of who uses PP? Do you idiots really want our society to pay for these welfare babies? Do you idiots have a better idea to keep all these unwanted babies from being bred besides PP. I bet a lot of welfare addicts and criminal have been kept from being born over the years because of PP. A lot of these people using the services are people THAT SHOULD NOT BE PARENTS. Lets not sugar coat the subject and dance around with a bunch of bs. I aint even racist but the truth is the truth. We already got all these illegal alien’s babies that our taxes are paying for. You idiots got a plan or what?…

    • mesaman August 16, 2015 at 4:26 pm

You start with the assumption that this is the way it is, either PP or welfare recipients, druggies, gangstas, democrats, or other types of criminals. I wonder if you might think up some possible alternatives such as prevention. You are doing your damnedest to bring racism into the picture.

      • mesaman August 16, 2015 at 4:29 pm

Hey, it’s nice to be back down here from the mountain. Love the heat, the weirdos, and the bizarre commenters, and the coolness brought here by the liberals, socialists, democrats. Wait, that’s redundant, isn’t it?

    • GrandmaB August 16, 2015 at 5:50 pm

Hey Fun Bag. Reality check. It is poor white people, the majority, who use PP. Just as it is for those who are on welfare, especially in the southern states. Your sister might have gotten help there at some point, or your daughter. Especially for birth control. That is one of the largest demographics they care for. Dispensing birth control for bearing age women.

      • fun bag August 16, 2015 at 7:21 pm

And granny i never said it was all poor black people or anything of the sort. I said look at the demographics. PP is saving the taxpaying from welfaring hoard of poor white hillbilly babies as well 🙂 YOU IDIOT REPUBLICANS SHOULD BE IN LOVE WITH PP, SAVING YOUR WALLET FROM ALL THESE WELFARE BABIES! 🙂

1.) In America, it’s innocent until proven guilty.
2.) In the United States of Republicanism it’s Guilty until proven innocent unless you have enough money to make a couple of sizable “campaign contributions”.
3.) In the Mormon “Church” State of Utah it’s guilty until proven innocent unless you are “LDS”(more points for a higher rank in the “church” of course), vote a straight Republican ticket (unless otherwise instructed by “church” officials aka “revelation”) AND are current on your tithing payments.

  • Simone August 16, 2015 at 6:51 pm

” Current Utah state law prohibits the use of state funds to provide abortions by Planned Parenthood or any other organization.” you know what’s really strange though? Planned Parenthood doesn’t provide abortions in Utah and, according to the “complete list of funding provided to Planned Parenthood” on this site, Abortions aren’t paid for by Federal money funneled through the state either.

Mesaman, as an 80 year old man, why do act like such an immature little child with your little idiotic playground insults? I’d expect a lot better from someone with an educational background spanning more than half a century. If he replies at all, I’m sure it’ll be some little childish troll comment. I’ve never even seen a thoughtful comment out of him even once…
