ST. GEORGE A collision occurred at the intersection of River Road and Brigham Road in St. George Tuesday afternoon when a driver, unfamiliar with driving a standard transmission vehicle, failed to yield while making a left-hand turn.

Just before 4:30 p.m., a woman driving a 2001 Dodge Ram truck was traveling north on River Road. While attempting to make a left-hand turn onto Brigham Road, she collided with a 2013 Ford pickup truck that was heading south on River Road.

The driver of the Dodge Ram was shifting gears, St. George Police Officer Jamison Hale said. She was unfamiliar with driving a manual vehicle, he said, and popped the clutch just as she was attempting to make the left-hand turn.

The Ford truck was hauling a cement mixer trailer. When the Dodge Ram hit the Ford, it caused the cement trailer to come off the hitch and roll, Hale said.

Those involved in the crash were all wearing seat belts, he said.

There appeared to be no major injuries, he said. However, the driver of the Ford truck complained of left shoulder pain. The passenger riding in the middle seat of the Ford truck reported he hurt his chin, and the third occupant of the Ford truck reported right side pain.

All three were checked out by responders at the scene and refused ambulance transportation to the hospital, Hale said.

The woman driving the Dodge Ram reported no injuries.

The Dodge Ram truck sustained significant front-end damage and had to be towed from the scene.

The Ford truck sustained damage to the driver’s side. The cement trailer also had damage to the side and a tire axle.

The driver of the Ford truck was able to drive away from the scene pulling the cement trailer.

The woman driving the Dodge Ram received a citation for failure to yield on a left-hand turn, Hale said.

In addition to St. George Police, the St. George Fire Department and Gold Cross Ambulance also responded to the scene.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
