WASHINGTON, D.C. — Sen. Orrin Hatch, the senior Republican in the United State Senate, issued the following statement after the announced resignation of Office of Personnel Management Director Katherine Archuleta:

As our understanding of the magnitude of the OPM hack has grown worse with each passing day, absent an adequate response from leadership or the administration, a change in management is absolutely necessary.

Federal employees and personnel have a right to know that when they choose a career in public service, their personal data is in the hands of responsible stewards. Director Archuleta failed that test. I intend to hold her successor, Mrs. (Beth) Cobert, accountable for improving the office and correcting the embarrassing shortcomings that have been exposed in recent weeks.
