Rosa Maria Taylor-Glass

Glass, Rosa(March 12, 1938 – July 2, 2015)

On Thursday, July 2, 2015, Rosa Maria Taylor-Glass, age 77, passed away peacefully at the Willow Woods Care Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, after a long 8-year battle with dementia. She was born March 12, 1938, in Managua, Nicaragua, to Mercedes Martinez of Managua, Nicaragua, and James Taylor of Hampshire, Tennessee.

Rosa came to the U.S. at age 18 with no prior training in the English language to claim her U.S. citizenship. Strong courage and faith carried Rosa through many personal trials and hardships. She became a member of the LDS Church on August 10, 1974, which teachings she embraced for the rest of her life. She was kind, funny, faithful, giving and compassionate to all people.

She lived in California, Arizona, and finally settled in the St. George area. She worked for St. Joseph’s Hospital and cared for the elderly in her home. She loved to travel with her husband, Donald Glass, and loved to visit her grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and siblings.

Rosa is preceded in death by her husband of 20 years, Donald Glass; her sister, Marvelly and her brothers, Vernon and Loving Taylor.

She is survived by her daughter, Yvonne Maria Taylor-Barney; son-in-law, Del K. Barney; granddaughters, Crystal Mena Barney, Kimberly Carma Barney-Lewis, Chelsea Barney; grandson, Joseph Jasper Barney, all of Heber City, Utah; great-grandchildren, Francis Trae Lewis, Trystan Dee Lewis and Harper Rose Becker; niece, Rosemary Williams and several other nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank the staff of the Willow Woods Care Center and Susan and Emily of Hospice Care for providing her with kind and compassionate care. The family extends an invitation to all those who knew Rosa to attend the graveside service.

Funeral Services

  • A graveside service will be held in Rosa’s honor Saturday, July 18, 10 a.m. at the Tonaquint Cemetery, 1777 South Dixie Drive, St. George.

Cremation provided by Jenkins-Soffe of Murray. Arrangements have been made under the direction of Spilsbury Mortuary, St. George 435-673-2454.
