ST. GEORGE — The four semifinalists are set for the St. George Summer Classic after another red-hot day on the diamonds in 111-degree Dixie.
With a late evening victory over Cedar City, the Dixie team clinched first place in the Liberty Division of pool play. The Flyers squad pulled out a narrow 5-4 win to go 3-0 in the two days of Round Robin pool play. With the first-place finish, Dixie will host the St. George Sentinels in one of two semifinals. The game will be played at Snow Canyon High at 5 p.m.
The other semifinal will pit Freedom Division winner Springville against Liberty Division second-place squad Colorado, which had beaten Snow Canyon, but lost to Dixie on Friday. Springville, 3-0, won two games Thursday and then beat Highland (Calif.) 9-6 Friday evening. The Springville-Colorado semifinal will be at Bruce Hurst Field.
The Sentinels got second place in the Freedom Division by beating Highland 13-4 Friday.
The two semifinal winners will square off for the St. George Summer Classic title at 8 p.m. at Hurst Field. last season, the St. George Sentinels beat Cedar City 11-9 in the championship game.
