ST. GEORGE – Black smoke billowed into the sky from a fire that consumed a scooter on the corner of 800 East and Tabernacle Street Friday afternoon. The smoke could be seen from the hillsides around the city.
Around 1:35 p.m., the St. George Fire Department was sent to the scene of a vehicle fire. What they found was a 150 CC scooter that had been completely engulfed in flames.
The blaze was quickly doused by firefighters.
The scooter’s rider, a man who appeared to be in his early 20s, told firefighters he began to feel something hot underneath him while making a turn onto Tabernacle Street. When the rider looked down, he saw the engine catching on fire and quickly pulled over and got off, St. George Firefighter Justin Snyder said.
Someone else who witnessed the growing scooter fire called 911, and the firefighters responded.
The rider was unharmed, but the scooter is a total loss, having burnt down to a charred frame.
This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
