Police drug trafficking crackdown ongoing; 8 arrested in narcotics, suspicious activity investigations

MESQUITE, Nev. – An investigation into the selling and trafficking of methamphetamine and marijuana concluded in Mesquite Wednesday with the arrest of six people and the recovery of illegal drugs, controlled substances and drug paraphernalia. Police response to a report of suspicious activity in Mesquite the week before concluded with the arrest of two people, also on drug and drug-related charges.

At about 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, Mesquite Police narcotics detectives wrapped up an investigation into multiple Mesquite residents who were allegedly selling and trafficking meth and marijuana, according to a Mesquite Police press release issued Thursday.

Because of the number of suspects and their gang affiliation, according to a statement issued by the Police Department, a search warrant was executed by Mesquite Police SWAT team at the suspects’ residence.

The execution of the search warrant resulted in the arrests of six adults and the recovery of illegal drugs, controlled substances and drug paraphernalia, as follows:

  1. Melissa Hernandez, 25, was arrested and charged with felony sales of meth and felony conspiracy to violate the Uniform Controlled Substance Act. Her parole in the state of Nevada has also been revoked.
  2. Jose Camarena, 22, was arrested and charged with felony offering and agreeing to sell meth, felony conspiracy to violate the Uniform Controlled Substance Act, two misdemeanor counts of possession of drug paraphernalia and one misdemeanor count for theft.
  3. Erik Gonzalez, 30, was arrested and charged with felony sales of meth, two counts of felony conspiracy to violate the Uniform Controlled Substance Act, felony trafficking of meth and two counts of transporting meth.
  4. Sheila Camarena, 18, was arrested and charged with felony possession of meth, misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
  5. Dimitri Martinez, 18, was arrested and charged with felony possession of meth, misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
  6. Karissa Ochoa, 21, was arrested and charged with felony conspiracy to violate the Uniform Controlled Substance Act.

In a separate incident June 11, Mesquite police officers were dispatched on a report of suspicious activity in the parking lot of a local business that resulted in the arrests of two men.

Responding officers approached the men and observed evidence of illegal drugs changing hands, according to a statement issued by Mesquite Police.

“It was determined through the officers’ field investigation that both males were in the process of selling and distributing methamphetamine and marijuana,” the statement said. “One of the two males was also on supervised probation with the state of Nevada.”

The June 11 arrests that followed were:

  1. Saul Garcia-Sandoval, 23, of Mesquite, was arrested and charged with two felony counts of possession of marijuana with intent to sell, two felony counts of possession of methamphetamine with intent to sell and six misdemeanor counts of possession of drug paraphernalia. Garcia-Sandoval was also in violation of his probation, the press release said.
  2. Benjamin Fairleigh, 22, of Mesquite, was arrested and charged with felony possession of methamphetamine, misdemeanor possession of marijuana and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

Anyone in the Mesquite community who sees suspicious activity or has information relating to illegal drug activity is asked to call the Mesquite Police Investigations crime tip line at 702-346-8826.

The community and the Police Department working together make for an effective team,” the press release said.

Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.
