2-vehicle collision; 2 transported to hospital, 1 in serious condition

HURRICANE – Two people were transported to the hospital with one woman listed in serious condition Wednesday morning following a two-vehicle collision on 3400 W. State Street in Hurricane.

At approximately 9:20 a.m., a 40-year-old man driving a white 2014 Ford F-150 was traveling east on State Street preparing to make a left-hand turn onto 3400 West, Hurricane City Police Sgt. Brandon Buell said. At the same time, a 66-year-old man and his 62-year-old female passenger were westbound on State Street in a blue 2012 Toyota Prius.

The driver of the Ford truck failed to yield to the Prius while making his turn, causing the Prius to crash into the Ford.

Both the occupants of the Prius sustained injuries during the collision and were transported via ambulance to Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George, Buell said. The woman was listed in serious condition, while the man was listed in fair condition.

The driver of the Ford truck was not injured, Buell said, and was issued a citation for failure to yield.

Both vehicles were rendered inoperable as a result of the collision and had to be towed from the scene.

Traffic was impacted on 3400 West for approximately 40 minutes while crews worked to clear the scene.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
