The 3A All-State teams, selected by the 3A coaches, were released this week, with Harrison Goebel and Logan LaFemina also making the first team for Pine View. The Panthers were also honored with second-teamers Connor Clark and Hunter Hansen and honorable mention performer Brooks Barney.

Cedar and Desert Hills had two first-team All-Staters with Redmen Brecken Lewis and Rykker Tom making the team and Thunder players Brayson Hurdsman and Wyatt Bendall also being selected.

Two other Region 9 players made the first team. Snow Canyon catcher Brady Sargent and Canyon View slugger Keaton Kringlen were named to the top honors, with Park City as the only other team with more than one first teamer. The Miners had outfielder Chandler Anderson, pitcher Scott Stokes and catcher Chandler Barkdull make the first unit.

Grantsville’s Wyatt Barrus, Payson’s Jaydon Hartle and Bear River’s Hunter Porritt round the All-State first team.

Donovan, who was 10-0 on the mound with a 1.10 earned run average in 2015, is a junior who also hit .373 this past season while collecting 30 runs batted in. Just a juunior, he had three victories in the state tournament, including a win in relief in the state championship game, a 13-10 Pine View win over Cedar. Donovan, who was named MVP by the Deseret News, has verbally committed to pitch for Oregon State University after next season.

Goebel and LaFemina were key offensive figures in the Pine View batting order. LaFemina hit .444 and was automatic at second base. Goebel batted .325 and also went 4-3 with a 3.04 ERA on the mound for the Panthers.

Like Donovan and Goebel, Lewis was a key part of the offense and defense for his team. Lewis was 11-2 with a 1.83 ERA on the mound and batted .312 with 18 RBIs for Cedar. Teammate Tom, who will play collegiately for the University of San Diego, hit .433 with a state-leading seven triples in 2015. He will try and fill the shoes of first-round draft pick shortstop Kyle Holder for the Toreros.

Hurdsman, a left-handed junior, was a slugger at the plate and a force on the mound. He hit .356 with 29 RBIs and also went 5-4 on the mound for Desert Hills, which finished tied for first in Region 9. Battery-mate Bendall, a strong-armed catcher, hit .434 his senior season, collecting 23 RBIs.

Kringlen, a senior Falcon, hit .390 for the Falcons, though they missed the playoffs by one game.

The second teamers on the All-State squad include six players from Region 9. Along with the aforementioned Clark and Hansen from PV, southern Utahns on the second unit include Cedar’s Treyson Esplin, Snow Canyon’s Brad Grisenti and Nick Dolce and Canyon View’s Payton Higgins.
