Memorial Day services, observances; Southern Utah guide

SOUTHERN UTAH – In observance of Memorial Day, cities and veterans groups around Southern Utah will be holding services designed to honor and pay tribute to those members of the armed forces who died while in the service and protection of our country.

Below is a list of observances and dedications being held throughout Southern Utah.

American Legion Observances

Post 142 | SunRiver Community Center, 4275 Country Club Drive, St. George | 8 a.m.

  • Tom Cover will give a speech about the meaning of Memorial Day, and the American Bald Eagle statue will be dedicated. Members of the Knights of Columbus and the Marine Corps League will be participating in the ceremonies

Post 100 | Hurricane City Cemetery, 850 N. 220 West, Hurricane | 8 a.m.

  • Hurricane Mayor John Bramall will be the featured speaker

Post 912 |  Washington City, Veteran’s Park, 75 E. Telegraph St., Washington City | 10 a.m.

  • Washington City Mayor Ken Neilson will be the speaker for their event

Post 90 | St. George City Cemetery, 700 E. Tabernacle, St. George | Noon

  • Mikaline Ipson will sing the National Anthem along with other patriotic songs. The featured speaker this year will be Hyrum W. Smith, a member of Post 90

Post 711 | Southern Utah Veteran’s Home, 160 N. 200 East, Ivins | 2 p.m.

  • There will be various groups providing patriotic music, and Ski Ingram will be the featured speaker

 Additional observances, activities

Team Red, White and Blue WOD with Warriors | CrossFit St. George, 1449 N. 1400 West, St. George | 8-10 a.m.

  • Join team Red, White and Blue in a functional fitness tribute to veterans

Parowan Memorial Day | Parowan City Cemetery | 10 a.m.

  • The Memorial Day service will take place at the Parowan City Cemetery near the flagpole

Memorial Day recognition and Veteran’s Memorial Service | Cedar City Cemetery, 685 N. Main, Cedar City | 9 a.m.

  • Cedar’s service will include bagpipes, a piper drum, military salute and more
