BOUNTIFUL – The Zion Lions remained the only undefeated team in the Rocky Mountain Football League with a dominant second half against the Utah Stealth Saturday afternoon. Three touchdowns in second half led to the 37-12 final tally.

logoo“We were missing quite a few guys today,” said Zion head coach Dale Stott. “All of our starting receivers and half of our defensive secondary were unable to make the trip.”

The Lions scored the first two touchdowns on Misi Tupe-James Thompson connections on their first two series to take an early 14-0 lead. On the Stealth’s next possession, the Lion defense held, forcing a punt. However, the Stealth faked the punt and got huge yardage on the play. That led to the first Stealth score, a pass from Jeff Wissler to tight end Graham Smith.

On the Stealth’s next possession, Vince Feula stripped the ball and Joe Feula scooped it up and ran it back to the Stealth five-yard line with five seconds remaining in the half. Rob Nadalski’s field goal gave the Lions a 17-6 halftime advantage.

The Stealth scored first in the second half when Wissler found wide receiver Colton Stark for the score, pulling to within 17-12 after the failed two-point conversion. They could not get any closer however. Misi Tupe scored on two long runs. The final score was a pick-six by Hurricane alum Trey Smith.

The Lions are the sole undefeated team in the RMFL improving to 8-0. The Stealth fall to 1-5. The RMFL will take Memorial Day weekend off. The Lions will travel to Brigham City to take on the Sting on May 30 for their final regular season game.
