ST. GEORGE — The jury is out and the results are in from the first day of the 3A State softball tournament and Region 11 is every bit as good as advertised.

Grantsville, Stansbury and Bear River all rolled to second-round victories and even fourth-seed Tooele staved off elimination with an easy win over Region 10 champ Uintah at the softball complex at Little Valley.

Meanwhile, Region 9’s best compiled a 1-3 record on the day with top-seeded Snow Canyon getting mercy-ruled by Stansbury 16-6 and second-seeded Canyon View dropping a 7-3 game to Grantsville and ending the season with a 9-5 loss to Carbon.

The lone bright spot for the only remaining team from the region was the Lady Warriors 6-1 victory over Union.

The Warriors couldn’t contain the hot bats of the No. 2-ranked Stallions as Stansbury scored at least two runs in each of the first four innings. It was 16-1 heading into the bottom of the fourth and SC avoided the “15 after three” run-rule by scoring two in the fourth.

Snow Canyon added three in the fifth, but could get no closer in the big loss. Stansbury, 23-4, moves on in the winner’s bracket and will face region rival Bear River at 10 a.m. Friday.

The Warriors, 18-5, beat up on 8-19 Union to extend their season. SC will battle Tooele (16-10) at 10 a.m. Friday with the loser going home.

The Falcons end the season with an 11-14 record after the two losses. Grantsville, 23-3 and ranked No. 1, led 7-0 before CV pushed home three runs in the seventh. In the elimination game, Carbon (20-7) staved off its season’s ending with the four-run victory.

The other semifinal will pit Juab (22-3) against the Cowboys. Juab is the only non-Region 11 team ranked in the top five. The winner’s bracket semifinal is Friday at 4 p.m.
