“The driver was not wearing a helmet and did sustain some pretty significant injuries as far as cuts, bruises, abrasions – just basically some pretty good road rash,” St. George Police Sgt. Sam Despain said.

The accident occurred just before 4 p.m. near 2990 E. Riverside Drive. The motorcycle rider was traveling eastbound on Riverside Drive when the car in front of him began slowing down to make a turn, Despain said. The man riding the motorcycle hit his brakes but his brakes locked up, and the motorcycle tipped over and slid.

“Nobody else (was) involved in the accident,” Despain said.

The motorcyclist was taken to Dixie Regional Medical Center to be treated for his injuries.

The motorcycle sustained what appeared to be cosmetic damage and was removed from the scene in a cargo trailer.

As this report is published, no citations have been issued in connection with the accident. Despain said it appears it was just an unfortunate incident and no one was at fault.

“It appears that in this one, no citations will be issued,” he said.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.

Why so much about him not wearing a helmet? Especially when he didn’t suffer head injuries (as per the article). I realize there is nothing wrong with wearing a helmet and the risk of head injury is much greater when you don’t wear a helmet. With that said, I’m sure the law is coming now that the seat belt law has passed. I was pulled over for speeding on my motorcycle and was lectured about not wearing a helmet… I finally had to remind this rookie officer that there is no helmet law here in Utah and to please write my ticket…
